MN Law Changes

A new law that goes into effect on January 1st, 2014, bans the ability of private employers to ask criminal history questions to job applicants, prior to conducting a background check.

The legislation, commonly known as “ban the box” is already in full force in a multitude of other states across the country. THIS LAW DOES NOT BAN THE USE OF BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR APPLICANTS. It simply means employers may not ask if applicant’s have a criminal history by placing the question on the application for employment.

If you have any questions about this new legislation or about your current process, please feel free to contact Employers Investigative Services.
